Our school has a small garden behind the library. Every Tuesday and Thursday, our class works there after lunch. We plant tomatoes, corn, and green beans in spring. Mr. Lin, our science teacher, teaches us how to take care of them.

At first, the seeds were sleeping in the dark soil. After one week, tiny green sprouts came out. We were so excited! We watered them every day and pulled out the weeds around them.

One week, it did not rain at all. The soil was dry, and the plants looked thirsty and sad. We took turns carrying water from the tap, bucket by bucket.

Now the tomatoes are red and round. Last week, we picked our first harvest and cooked tomato soup in the school kitchen. It was the best soup in the world, because we grew it ourselves. Working in the garden is hard, but it teaches us to be patient.
