Last summer, my family took a train trip to Hualien, a city on the east coast of Taiwan. We left Taipei early in the morning, and I sat by the window the whole way because I wanted to see the ocean.

The train went through long, dark tunnels in the mountains. Every time we came out of a tunnel, the view changed. First there were green rice fields, then small towns with quiet streets, and at last, the blue Pacific Ocean appeared. My little brother shouted, "The sea! The sea!"

In Hualien, we rode bikes along the coast. The wind was strong and the waves were high, but we had a great time. The next morning, we went to Taroko. The tall white cliffs and the clear blue river looked like a picture in a book. A guide told us that the river cut through the mountains over millions of years.

We also visited a famous night market and ate sweet potato balls and papaya milk. On the train home, everyone was tired but happy. My father said, "The best part of a trip is not just the places. It is the time we spend together." I looked out the window and nodded.
